If your program requires that the user connect to and depend on the programmer's servers to run the program or that the user may gain special titles in the network from the programmer, would the GPL protect you, if those titles/special permissions were ever compromised?

The GPL would allow you to modify the program to remove that kind of requirement.

The requirement is socially driven. Though the GPL would allow them to create their own titles, and so would the program, the habits and needs of the users (society) would outweigh the need for the user to come up with their own titles. Mainly, it would behoove the individual to get a title from our service, but not be required (They could create their own).
