Clean install: Home folder on mdadm RAID1

Hi forums folks,

First time poster long time lurker.

I'd like to reinstall ubuntu 11.10.
I have a setup where my install is on a small SSD ( /)
and my home folder is on a 1 TB RAID1 (/home).

I'd like to be lazy and keep all of my preferences while getting a clean install from the alternate CD.

Can this be done?
Can any one point me along the to success ?

I solved this problem by starting a fresh installation
with the alternate installation image.
The RAID1 /home folder was recognized and I chose
not to format the said folder.
