Are there any proprietary drivers available for the Radeon X1950 GT? If not, then can I get the latest open source ones? I'm trying to run Portal 2 through Steam and it's totally messed up.

I just tried to install Catalyst 9.3, but it wouldn't install. Can anyone help me here? What can I install that's better then what Ubuntu 11.10 comes with?

There's no way to use Catalyst 9.3 without going back to an Ubuntu release from the same time period.

If you want to try a bleeding edge X stack, you could add the xorg-edgers (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) PPA. Read the whole description and do not add it if you're not comfortable undoing the damage from the console.

Thanks crdlb I'll do just that. I'll report back when I'm done.

Would you mind giving me some step by step instructions? I seem to be stuck.
