There are many similar posts to this, but none of them really had what I wanted to know.

I recently discovered tiling window managers, my favourite being wmii. I was then struck by an idea: use wmii instead of compiz inside gnome. So I google search it, and I manage to pull it off, but here's the problem: wmii (and xmonad and dwm and ratpoison and so on) don't play nicely with my beloved gnome panels.

So: could anyone tell me one or more of these three things:
1. How to make gnome panels play nicely with wmii
2. How to make wmii play nicely with gnome panels
3. How to add tiling to compiz

Thanks

P.S. (almost forgot) I am using Ubuntu 10.10 with gnome 2.32

Doesn't Compiz already have a tiling plugin? ... Ah, yes. "Grid." See: http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/linux-w-compiz-tile-position-and-resize.html

Umm, I don't know why, but my ccsm doesn'thave that plugin. Do you know where I could get it?

Umm, my ccsm doesn't have that for whatever reason, and I can't find the download. Do you where I can get it?

Maybe you need: compiz-plugins-extra (in the repo).

EDIT: I'm noticing just now that this has been built-in for a while. It's just some of the odd keyboard combinations:
