Hello.
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 one week ago.

Obviously there have been updates in these days ...
I know and I noticed them using the terminal command

sudo apt-get update & & sudo apt-get upgrade

But in all these days never once appeared the famous icon "Updates available" at the top ... in the old "notification area".

Despite I have already edit in the whitelist 'update-notifier'

['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'scp-dbus-service', 'Update-notifier', 'weather-indicator', 'VLC', 'Wicd', 'Skype']

What's the problem?

Thank you!

Sudo apt-get update checks for updates and sudo apt-get upgrade installs the updated packages . I have not installed an upgrade notifier for 11.10 , but did install one on 11.04 via PPA . The update notifier for the Gnome panel would not work with Unity . To check the update history go to software center > history .

With my clean install no tweaks update manager fires up and an icon appears in the launcher. No other notification.

How about trying a unity --reset from a terminal.

You would loose any tweaks you did.

I did a fresh install of 11.10 on a large USB Flash drive, and I got the update notification in the notification tray. Did you do a fresh install, or did you upgrade from Natty?

I'll loose the whitelist, the apps in the launcher and.. what else?

Oh, here it is!
Just a few seconds ago, it opened automatically the update manager ...
but I can not see any of the update notifier icon yet!

How to disable auto launch update manager AND enable the update notifier icon
thank you!
