View Full Version : [ubuntu] Complete Dead End Evaluating Ubuntu

I have failed twice trying to evaluate Ubuntu due to issues I can't solve. First, I tried to make a USB stick to boot Ubuntu on my MacBookAir 4,1 only to find that it's impossible. Second, I tried to run Ubuntu on a desktop only to find that there isn't a network driver for the Realtek 8111E!

This is very discouraging since I have renewed interest in Linux with the advent of SSD technology. SSD solves the problem I have had with UNIX and its many variants, namely, that disk accesses accompany nearly every user action and with HDDs that imposed a disk random access overhead burden on every user action. With SSDs, that burden has been reduced to invisibility.

I'd love to try Ubuntu in this environment but it just doesn't seem ready. Any hope?
