Hello!

So have a a Western Digital HD (Newly reformatted, NFTS, 4096KB allocation, 280GB, spinning platter) sitting in an external HD enclosure onto which I am trying to install a copy of Ubuntu.

On my laptop, I am running Windows 7. So (and maybe I'm missing something here) I thought the Wubi.exe program would work just fine as far as installation goes. However, I've been experiencing problems with it (the thread for which continues to go unanswered here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1865838)) and was wondering if someone could offer a better alternative.

For the record, I'm running an HP Pavilion Laptop, and from the BIOS I don't seem to be able to set a boot order, so unless someone has a workaround for that, I don't think booting from a hard drive (or maybe even from a CD) will actually work.

Thanks in advance!
