So I have this old computer that we still use for basic stuff like internet and office programs (word processors, spread sheets, etc.). So I decided to install Ubuntu since the computer got a bad virus. I'm currently running 10.10 (maverick). While the computer is running just fine it's still a little slow. I came across this article: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purelxdemaverick and I was wondering, do I need to do all of those commands (are they all pre-installed on ubuntu?), or do I just need to do the one for ubuntu (is each command based off of which distribution of linux your running?)?

If you want to replace Gnome with LXDE you will have to run commands under Remove Ubuntu section.Just copy/paste them in terminal and your old comp will notice difference.

In stead of removing a lot of packages from your present system I would recommend a fresh install of Lubuntu, preferably 11.10.
