Packages updating too slow in Kubuntu 11.10

Hello,

I have just installed Kubuntu 11.10 and I found that when I want to update packages to see if there's been an update it takes a lot of time refreshing them. This is the same if I use "sudo apt-get update" or if I use Muon. And I have not yet added any ppa or custom repository!

Is this normal?

Perhaps not a Kubuntu problem... I've noticed that us.archive.ubuntu.com is getting hammered at various points throughout the day, and the downloads become very slow. I've changed my download location to mirror.anl.gov, which is always very fast for me.
