I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 in my Lenova SL500 (Inter Core 2 Duo). I was using 10.04 before and the online update failed during 10.10 to 11.04. Later I used a 11.10 installable DVD and the update was completed successfully. However I see many problems with my display. Mainly many menu icons are empty and don't have any image. For e.g. the home folder icon looks blank and when it is included in lanch menu it is invisible. When I hover the menu pointer I can see the tool tip text. Could someone pls help me fix this?

Looks like no one has a solution. So I have gone back to Gnome-shell and it seems to be working well.
Also just for info, as it may help someone, I faced problems with dual monitors as well and I had to use the proprietary driver from NVIDIA (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-285.05.09-driver.html).
