In 11.04 we had control over when the screen dimmed and ect... Now it's just when to suspend, what to do when the lid closes, and what to do on a dying battery. Did they get rid of all the more advanced options or did they just hide them from me?

I've been wondering the same thing. There are lots of options missing from System Settings that were available in 11.04. Seems like a big regression for Unity.

You should blame the people at Gnome.org. They have stopped developing the usual version of Gnome (now called Gnome 2) and have switched to something called Gnome 3. Ubuntu like other major distros has had to switch to basing the distribution on Gnome 3.

At the moment Gnome 3 has limitations. This is the reason for the lack options that were available in earlier versions of Ubuntu. A lot of effort has gone into putting Ubuntu on top of Gnome 3.

As Gnome 3 develops and as Unity is developed things will no doubt improve. As someone in another thread said, It took years for Gnome 2 to get where it it today. Allow some time for Gnome 3 to develop.

And there in effect improvements. In system Setting under Network you will find that the wireless connection now has an option to put the wireless adapter in Access Point mode. Did not have that before.

Regards.
