View Full Version : [ubuntu] problems after a new install

I originally had 11.04 fully working with a GNOME desktop. When I did an upgrade via the update manager and the progress hung in a black screen and obviously after a forced reboot, the system "broke."

So I decided to do a fresh reinstall with an 11.10 live CD. The issues I'm having are with samba and trying to get into the printer configuration menu. Samba shows an icon on the launcher but after entering my password, it disappears from the launcher after a few seconds. Updating the system will give an error with samba. I tried reinstalling some of the samba packages (with synaptic) but it doesn't work.

Selecting printers from the menu also doesn't seem to open up any windows.

Two side notes, there doesn't seem to be a way to reordering icons in the upper right tray as like in the GNOME 2 panel.
Also is there any way to get the language selector back on the login screen?

Thanks for any possible insight.
