Er, not really. It only started to take off in the late 90s.

First Ubuntu release I used was Dapper, but I think I went straight to Feisty from that, so I guess it was about 2007.

Ubuntu 7.10 is the first time I used Linux. I guess I've been around for the majority of Ubuntu's existence.

5.10. Actually, that was Kubuntu Breezy, my first "Ubuntu family" installation, back in early '06. I installed Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) later that year, as well as Kubuntu Dapper on another computer.

The first version I used was 9.04 and I actually miss the orange/brown colour scheme. How weird am I?

Not weird at all. I use the old Human theme on my non-Ubuntu distro.

+1 !

Yup.... We tried Breezy first. Been on SuSE for a while, never got on with 'yast' which eventually borked the graphics setup. <sigh>
SuSE never got wiped, but Dapper went on next to it, stayed a _l_o_n_g_ time!

LTS is great, Lucid is the greatest to date (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1857419), imho.

I heard about Ubuntu in early 2005, the first version I ever used was 5.04 (Hoary?)

The first version that had a proper partition & dual boot (something which has remained ever since) was 7.04 (a.k.a Feisty)

Me too although I didn't use ubuntu regularly until about a year later.

9.04

I have tried every single version since then, but I didn't like 9.10 and 11.04 though. I have 10.04 installed on 3 servers now, and 11.10 on my personal desktop computer, and I LOVE it!

Ubuntu 4.10 Warty Warthog

Before that debian hell of a time to get my ati cards to work back then.

I tested the 4.10 briefly, but pretty much forgot about it until the 5.04 was released. After less than 2 hours of running the 5.04 live-CD on my computer it was time to format the hard drive and get rid of Windows. :D Since then there's been no question about what's the primary OS on my computers.

edit: I suppose the join date on my profile next to this message might have told the same thing. ;)

I installed 4.10, but didn't like it, and went back to Debian and PCLOS until I installed 6.06, and have stuck with mostly Ubuntu ever since.

It's hard to believe it's been that long.

I tried Breezy, and really liked Dapper. In fact my computer in the office has had just three installs, Dapper, Hardy, and now Lucid.

At home, that's a different story, I've been all over the village. Currently using Xubuntu 11.10, but, I'm sure that there will be something different next week...

Edit:

I originally joined here in 2006, but left for a while, and had that account closed. Rejoined, as you see, in 2010.

I first started with Ubuntu 9.10 on a hardware of 2001. It was amazing, right were Windows couldn't walk any longer Ubuntu 9.10 was carrying everything ... smooth :-)
Now I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

I started using it since Hardy Heron.
I don't know why, but that release feels special to me. I just loved the default wallpaper.

I just downloaded the first ubuntu I think 4. Something I'm going to give it a run, to see what I missed. I wonder how fast it will move on my system..

I think I subconsciously tend to think it's eleven years old, forgetting that it started with 4.10. And Hardy (my first 'buntu) was halfway between then and now.

If your computer is newer than 2006, it probably won't run on it.

I remember the dark chocolate color of 5.10 (Breezy Badger); however, I didn't really get Ubuntu working satisfactorily until 6.06 (Dapper Drake). It was at 6.06 (Dapper Drake) that I started migrating my home computer use to Linux based open source. I had used Unix at work for a decade or two before then. I had also experimented with other Linux distros prior to the creation of the Ubuntu distro.
