Ok, i had ubuntu 11.4 and started updating to 11.10 but I forgot to plug in the battery of the laptop and it closed while installing ubuntu 11.10.When I opened it i couldnt do anything because my mouse and keyboard werent working and the desktop was very weird looking .So I burnt ubuntu 11.10 to a cd from my main pc and format my laptop, but now when i open it tty1 shows up and asks for log in and password.I tried startx but it has error message:
"the program startx is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install xinit"
I type in sudo apt-get install xinit but I get:
Reading package lists...done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information...done
E: Unable to locate package xinit
I even tried ctrl-alt-F7 but dosnt get me to desktop.I am total noob to ubuntu so any help would be appreciated
