Code names and other coelacanths

I'm probably going to be answered as though I were a hybrid of Ebenezer Scrooge and Darth Vader, but can we quit with the code names for Linux distributions, already? People are taking them way too seriously.

Since when are Ubuntu's release names "code names"? I didn't realize there was any connection between the two ideas. They're just names that sound snappier than numbers for the press releases.
