Installed compiz manager, checked wobbly windows, they don't work...I loved the wobbly windows!

Yes, I understand this is trivial and picky :D

They work for me in 11.10 with an ATI card, so they should work for you with your "MSI 8600GT GPU" (I presume that's a nvidia GeForce 8600GT?). Which video driver are you using? And - are you sure you are logged into the Unity 3d desktop and not the Unity 2d desktop?

The 173, the newest driver didn't play nice, so I had to use the old one :/

I'm logged in with Gnome-shell.

'm logged in with Gnome-shell.

That would be the problem. Gnome-shell doesn't use compiz.

That's pretty much correct. It was pretty highly publicized (and commented on here in the forums) that Gnome-shell was a plugin for the default Gnome 3 window manager and therefore couldn't work with Compiz. This is pretty much that same way that Unity is a plugin for Compiz, so you couldn't, for example, combine Unity with Fluxbox.

O, so compiz and gnome-shell are not mutual.
I hope gnome-shell at least adds wobbly windows as a feature ... like in compiz.
