I'm trying the live Gnome CD to install on a multi-system setup. The installer throws a warning message at the 'restore settings..' stage near the end (what settings, it's a clean install?) and on reboot throws some kernel panic and hangs. The only way to install Ubuntu 11.10 on this system is through the mini.iso, then from the command line install ubuntu-desktop.

At a guess there is a problem with the graphical installer in installing the boot loader onto /dev/sda11 where the file system is, since with the mini-iso command line installer you can trick it into not installing a boot loader at all. My bootloader is elsewhere and the grub menu is written from another system on another partition. I just need the ubuntu installer to write the vmlinux and initrd stuff to /boot and then get out of the way.

Is there any way to get the Ubuntu graphical installer to miss the install a bootloader stage?
