Well that would be how to install the Gnome Fallback Session, since he said Google Desktop, I am assuming he wants the Google Desktop program. If that is what you mean, then see this: http://googledesktop.blogspot.com/
Google will no longer offer Google Desktop, you could probably install an older version of it though. See this: http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppas/9 if you still want it.

Well, I am also trying to use Google Desktop in Oneiric.
I managed to install it through http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppas/9, and the program can be opened through Dash, but it cant be configured.

Is anyone facing the same problem?

I also think that it is taking too much CPU resources, more than in 11.04 or 10.04.

Yes! I have the same problem with google desktop. And I also think the new Ubuntu is slower.

I've found an excellent substitute for Google Desktop.
Try using Recoll (available in Software Center).
Im still trying it, but i am inclined to say that it is even better than Google Desktop.

I am having the same issue. Google desktop is installed but not working. Can't be opened from dash.
Google desktop had a quick search box. Can also be used directly from browser address bar. It shows results instantly. I doubt if recoll can be better than that, however i will give it a try.
