Hi,

So i upgraded my ubuntu 64bit from 11.04 to 11.10.
It did say there were problems encountered with the upgrade and that my system could be in an unstable state, but i think it was just flash that failed from what i saw.
Anyway now when i am prompted with the login screen and try to change the user session i only have:
recovery console
ubuntu (unity)
ubuntu 2d (unity 2d)
user defined custom (and just a simple task bar at the top and nothing else)

How do i get back the old ubuntu classic layout?
I dont really like unity...

First in your title you mentioned 10.10 ad in the post it is 11.10.

Ubuntu 11.10 not having ubuntu classic .But you can get it by doing this

sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

All The best.

I think you cant.I heard that Ubuntu not including Ubuntu-classic Desktop in 11.10. But if you want desktop like that then i can suggest you Xubuntu.

have you tried re-installing Unity from software center ?

no i haven't. Unity's installation is fine, i just don't like it.
I now installed gnome shell, which comes with gnome classic and gnome 3 which is a bit like unity but i bit less ugly.
The classic gnome is ok but i can't add anything to the taskbar.
i think ill stay with gnome 3 for now.

thx.

Use "ALT+right click" to add applets to the taskbar in gnome falback.
