hello,

I just upgraded to ubuntu 11.10, so far like what i see, except unity, which i feel is counter-productive.

installed gnome from the software center, and i can use it, but gnome 3 will freak out on me, literally. the screen will jumble and will freeze up. I can use classic gnome, but it seems like they just stripped all the benefits of using it. got a very nice 1GB gfx card, so thats not the issue.

guess more or less, is there a way I can sorta customize the workings of unity? perticularly can i make it so that the left menu panel doesn't disappear? thats my biggest complaint among anything else. if that could stick, I could learn to like it. otherwise i may try KDE next :(

thanks :)
