OK so, I just took a picture of a plant. Then I applied a rain drop to it by:

selecting a circle
filling it with gradient
applying a drop shadow of 3 3 15 70
removing the gradient
applying a drop shadow of -3 -3 15 30
then fuzzy brushing a white light into it

My only problem is, I need to skew the selection before I start the process. I want the rain drop to run. I've tried everything from changing perspective to making an oval elipse and rotating it by 45 degrees. The only teardrop tutorials I can find online makes a VERY fake looking tear. :-( Anyone who could help with this, I give you thanks in advanced.

My Gimp Foo is not that powerful.
Try going here:

could you make the drop shape in inkscape, and then import it to gimp as a path.

GIMP can do vector paths, too, if in a limited way. That would probably be the most reasonable approach. You could make the circle, draw the tail using paths, and use that as a guide for the selection.
