I just installed Ubuntu 11.10, and I am only able to set 1024x768 or 800x600 for screen resolution. I am using a LG L1710S monitor, which I know doesn't have EDID working even with windows. I tried using xrandr setmode and addmode, but I get an error that 1280x1024 is not supported. I tried nvidia-xconfig which created an xorg.conf, but that reduced my resolution to 640x480 or 320x240 only. 1280x1024 is the native resolution on this monitor. Can anyone help me? BTW, I'm using a geforce 8400 GS w/ 512 MB RAM, and 1280x1024 works in Windows. I uninstalled Ubuntu for now, until I can figure this out.
