If I open Google Chrome from the Unity Launcher bar,new windows don't 'register' in the launcher- in other words, there are no little arrows next to the icon to indicate that Chrome windows are actually open, and I can't left-click on the icon to see what Chrome windows are open. Help?

Just a bug in the system. Will probably be fixed with updates.

Install gnome-shell and use that. Chrome works correctly in there.

Go into applications and drag it over from there. That fixed it for me.

Multiple instances of chromium appeared in the unity launcher after each launch of chromium. Thanks for your tip, the problem is fixed.
