Do the drivers installed on a live usb peristent remain while installing from it?
I am trying xubuntu 11.10 on AMD64 Phenom 1090T, GT520, 8GB, Gigabyte880GM. If I install the nvidia current driver on this persistent usb, does it continue if I install from it to the hard disk? Or will I have to download and install again?

Why no reply? Is it not important? Or is it unsolvable?

no reply because we are all volunteers and it is a free support community, people answer what they can when they can.

When you install you will need to install the drivers again, though you can customise an install.

(... after installing nvidia current and Compiz successfully, I am unable to login. It is asking for username / password, I am unable to find any combination... ?
I find that I can go to terminal(?) by hitting Control+Alt+F1, but I do not know what to do further. Any help will be appreciated.)

password for what ? to login ? should be whatever you set it as.

root is locked by default and so any admin tasks require ROOTSUDO (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo) which is your password

there usually is no password a Live version or use ubuntu with no password

Thanks for the reply. Actually I am unable to login to xubuntu persistent, in which I had installed nvidia-current drivers, vlc etc successfully. I have not given any username or password. The xubuntu option does not require any login name or password. The problem is only for the persistent version which is an option while booting from the live usb. Hope I have made myself clear.

I have tried this with no result.
