Does the menu screen give you choice of Ubuntu and Windows? what happens when you
select Windows? It will only show that menu screen if has 2 operating systems present.

Put in a Live Cd (install CD using Try Ubuntu) and from there you can get to your personal
files. Back them up to a Usb drive of some sort. Then we will see about fixing your Ubuntu
system. Open any window like Documents, Home, Downloads anything and on left of that
Nautilus Window will be the install. If you just dual booted how do you need any files on
there? If you are in Windows you have got your Windows files? I am taking for granted
this is an Upgrade to 11.10 from 11.04 since it seems English not your first language.

ahaha English is my first and only language, i am typing slopy and fast because i am doing over the file that i lost. The file is on Ubuntu not on Windows. I did the live CD but could not find my old files back on ubuntu 11.04. I have all my window files but NOT my ubuntu files. sorry about my messy typing. Got to redo my lost file ahha
