I just installed the new Ubuntu and when it starts to boot up it hangs on the
checking for running unattended-upgrades

How do I get past this screen?

Thanks

For more information at the screen with all the writing that I am stuck at it tells me under the "checking for running unattended upgrades title it tells me that "automatic crash report and CPU interrupts balancing have both failed.

So if you're getting stuck why don't you download the ISO burn cd or use a USB and try to upgrade from that that is the most effective way of doing it other than going through the internet.

On the other hand if the offline one screws your system you can do a fresh install also please make a backup of you /home folder (just in case).

I did download the Iso and preformed a clean install off of a bootable USB. After the installation says its complete it restarts then hangs on the black screen with text mentioned in my above posts.

I'm having similar problem after accepting to upgrade thru the ubuntu update system. It just lists my partitions and then tells me to press Ctrl+Alt+Del.

I also have an XP in one of the partition, which is what I'm using now. It has also affected my XP so much that it is very slow now.

I would not advice anyone to install this 11.10 version until these issues are corrected.

Does anyone know how to get beyond this point?

Thanks all. I'm a newbee.

I'm stuck at the gdm loading theme. Anyone have a fix?

Try selecting "use previous version of ubuntu" and select the first option. Its not optimal but at least you can use 11.10 that way

After doing a clean install i had the same message 4 times " checking for running unattended-upgrades ".

The solution was to uncheck the two boxes " ‘Download Updates’ and ‘install third party software"
This solved it for me.

The post above me worked too, just uncheck those 2 boxes and you should be good to go.
