View Full Version : [ubuntu] Turned off Wireless via powertop and can't get it back on

October 12th, 2011, 01:37 PM
Hello All,

While on a flight I turned off wireless via powertop and foolishly didn't look closely at the command that was being input. Now I cannot seem to get it back on (I'm connected via ethernet)...

When I click on the network icon:
wireless is grayed out and below in gray it says:
"wireless disconnected by hardware switch"

I have tried flipping my switch on the side but that does nothing (on previous flights that would turn it off).

I have an x220 running 11.04. My wireless card is Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250. I've tried:
modprobe ipw2200

but that does nothing...

thanks for the help,

Ok so actually figured this out quickly - sorry for rushing to post - hopefully it helps someone else...

it seems that you need to toggle the switch before you reboot. That seems like an odd bug to me but easy enough to work around...
