Can't update with Intrepid. I would like to keep this version as apposed to upgrading. Anyone want to help me how to solve this?

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

I followed these steps

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...48&postcount=4 (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6653548&postcount=4)

I was able to get one update and that's it. And then I still get errors.

won't the upgraded versions use more resources?
Plus I'm already spending hours on this system today. Just installing 2 OS's, doing upgrades, apps install, user accounts, etc.

I think you feel comfort with 10.04 LTS.so please do a upgrade to that.you can get that option from your update manager by clicking at the settings option , in that at the first tab , last option will be for distribution so choose there long term support, then you will get that option.

I have 10.04 on my desktop. I am keeping 8.04 on my laptop though.

Also Grub 2 is not too easy to edit.

I think you will face but that's also too low and maximum you wont get any difference.

why are you doing upgrades after installing the os to your system ? you can directly do the upgrade for existing os by using cd of it or you can do fresh installation.

All support for 8.10 Intrepid ended April 30, 2010. You may continue to use it if you like, but there will never be any more updates.

Actually that is exactly what "no longer supported" means.

You can install some outdated applications by changing your mirror to old-releases.ubuntu.com, but frankly I recommend simply using a supported release. :)

well....

im attempting to load the Ubuntu 10 to install, but that's not happening

It just goes to the purple screen with the 2 symbols. The one of a stick person. Then it goes to the ubuntu screen, then it just goes to a black screen and sits there forever. Then after a minute or two, the pc shuts down.

Best method to getaway from this problem is to install fix404. You can read about it more here:

Under Ubuntu, the APT package index is a database containing all packages of repositories (PPAs) defined in the /etc/apt/sources.list file. To update this database after adding some repositories, we need to use this command from the Terminal:

sudo apt-get update

Sometimes, when running the command given above, we get error messages (404 Not Found) that are the result of wrong PPAs, which may slow down the update process via the Terminal. In fact, this 404 Not Found error messages are not harmful at all, but you can use Fix404 to detect and remove these PPAs.

To install Fix404 on Ubuntu 11.04, launch the Terminal and run these commands:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:lkjoel/fix404
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install fix404

To install on Ubuntu 10.10/10.04, download this deb package here.

To start using Fix404, run this command (root privileges required):

sudo fix404

Then follow displayed instructions to disable PPAs causing the 404 Not Found Error.

Best method to getaway from this problem is to install fix404.

fix404 can do nothing for repositories for old releases that are off line. Also 8.04/8.10 did not have the 'add-apt-repository' command.

OP, what are your system specs?

Solved. Already switched to Lubuntu 11.10 (latest).
