ATTENTION LEGAL

Yesterday, the news came out that the Timezone database maintainers have been sued for copyright infringment. The news appeared, among other places, on LWN, Slashdot, The Register, and the ABA Journal.

Ubuntu distributes the "tzdata" package.

If anyone knows how to contact Canonical legal, we should make absolutely sure that they're aware of this news, so they can look out for everyone's interests. Does anyone know how to get in touch with Canonical lawyers directly?

The case is Astrolabe, Inc. v. Olson et al, in United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts (Boston), CASE #: 1:11-cv-11725-GAO, filed on or about September 30th 2011.

I'm sure Canonical lawyers read the news, just as we all do. But this is not something we want to let slip through the cracks. If anyone knows how to contact Canonical legal directly, then please make sure they're heard the news, and are staying on top of this.

I read about this yesterday. This lawsuit is, IMNSHO, absolutely ridiculous. I think the best thing to do would be to contact the EFF.
