Is there any open source distro for Android?

is there an operating system for an operating system ?

Android is a stack which includes an operating system (the linux kernel) as would be a Open Source Distro such as Ubuntu etc.

Or do you mean is there a open source distro which will work on a phone which is currently running android ?

I'll bet he's asking if there is an Android distribution that will install on a computer.

I think this is the best you can get if you want to install Android on an x86 system: http://www.android-x86.org/ However I haven't tried this myself it just pops up as the first Google result when you search for "Android x86" :P

Probably.

If that is the question then yes you can run Android OS, i had it in a VM for a while but removed it now.

Interesting. Those two options are probably better than wrestling with the Android emulator in the SDK.

It can be said, Android is a distro.

I really got to look into that x86 android distro.
I was thinking about learning how to make apps
vbox meet android, android meet vbox! ( hope it works )

Sorry guys. What I meant was that is there any open source "repository" of applications for Android?
