Is there really anything I would want in the current, or upcoming release of Xubuntu that wouldn't be in the LTS that would make me go "ooh golly I wish I had that" ? Or would LTS releases do the job of an "XP replacement" to where I wouldn't have to worry about updating a distro as often, so on ?

not really. you cna get newer programmes via PPA (actually also the DE can be upgraded using those). If LTS works on your maschine stick with it.

oh and in Xubuntu the only thing is better ram usage optimisation in newer versions, but if you have at least 512 MB ram then this should be of concern.

I am still on LTS on maschinewhere it works well. The other one acted up so i had to use 10.10 to remove the sound issue. now i am waiting with it for next lts to upgrade it to.
