View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installing 10.10 on Vista

I'm trying to wipe a vista machine clean and install 10.10 from an ISO (checked for files).

Simple enough right?

Well, It's not giving me any options on boot. Instead of asking me if I want to try or install, the screen goes black then then shows ubuntu with dots fading in and out underneath. After a few moments the desktop loads and appears to be running, but with nothing installed all progress is lost when disk is removed and computer restarted.

I had zero problems installing on a XP machine awhile back, but having the same symptoms on both Vista and 7. Any solutions would be much appreciated.

Welcome to UF :-)

Have you checked the md5sum of the downloaded iso file?

I'm a little confused. Are you actually trying to dual boot? If so, take a look here for guidance on how to do it properly:

If you're your doing a fresh install of Maverick, then do as suggested and check the md5sum, or simply redownload the ISO, burn a new copy, and try that.
