Gnome 3's panel cannot be made any smaller smaller than 29 pixels, which I consider way too big. I didn't even like 24 pixels so I reduced my pane in gnome 2 to 20 pixels.

If you agree with me please add your voice to gnome bug 654027 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=654027). It requires changing 4 lines of code to fix this.

The panel in my GNOME 2.32 (Ubuntu Classic) on my Ubuntu 11.04 is the default 24 pixels high. I know Windows has some pretty tall taskbars. Win7's is like 40px high if I remember right. I think only Mac OS X's also comes to 22-24px like GNOME 2's.

I too like my 24px panel up top. But 29px isn't much different. I don't think it's too big, as it takes up less real estate than Win Vista's and 7's.
