Hi Bob&Frank.

There is no downgrade option, so you need to do a fresh install.

Is 11.04 not working well?

If you plan on going backwards atleast use 10.04. It's the LTS version that will be supported until 2015. 10.10 support ends next year I think

For 10.04, support on the desktop ends 2013:

If Bob & Frank don't like Ubuntu 11.04, have you tried Xubuntu 11.04?
