Hi,

Time to eat, ... programing can wait ;) *Pauses* are also very important, Linux / Ubuntu is great but still take care of you too.

So, the Japanese food is said to be very tasty, but as well also healthy.

What is the typical food in Japan? Which meal could you advice us to try/to cook? In Japan, they eat more fibres and fish, is it right?

Thanks in advance !

Haven't had any Japanese dishes yet, but I am going to the Asian Food Festival this weekend and plan to do some taste testing.

Unagi is possibly the best thing I've ever eaten.

i don't know if I'm going to get all the spelling of this right, but here goes!

There is a stew type dish called Sukiyaki, is has thin cuts of beef in it and is pretty damn tasty.

Also, another one called Oyakodon which translates to mother daughter dish or some damn thing, again it's a dish with rice, egg and chicken, also really good!!

These (next to sushi and cold soba noodles dipped in some weird fish sauce) are some of the most traditional and best dishes I've had. Enjoy!

+1 You need to be sure the beef is sliced super thin.

Tempura (lightly battered, deep fried vegetables) is also delicious, but not as healthy as a lot of other Japanese dishes.

Udon soup is very good.

When I was in Japan many years ago, curry rice was a popular and delicious street food. Don't know where you live, but here in the US you can find Japanese curry blocks in grocery stores - you melt them down to make the sauce.

stock up your cupboards with some sake, rice and some nori leaves and you can ;-)

Throw in some fresh sashimi every day from the fishmonger and your all set.

Budget then try a tin a of tuna added to your homemade sushi

I quite agree. Though, it never tastes nearly as good as it does at restaurants.

When I lived in Japan for 11 years. I liked things like Gyoza (Dumplings), Chao Fan (Fried Rice), Lemon Chicken, Yakitori (Skewered Grilled Chicken), and lots of white rice.

I am not a fan of seafood and wasn't a fan of curry, yakisoba, ramen. Yes I'm a picky eater. Like anybody I lived off of home cooked meals of course and then whatever I ate at school usually Ginger chicken. mmmm.

Also General Tzao's chicken is good too, and Sweet and sour chicken too.

We kneel before their culinary wizardry. ;)

While I don't cook a lot of Japanese food, I will occasionally make onigiri as an alternative to sandwiches; it really depends if I can be bothered to make the effort. ;)

Sushi's a favourite of mine; a store in inner Brisbane (Australia) does a mighty fine job of it.

From what I hear, fugu's to die for. Especially if it hasn't been prepared just right.
