Hello.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 (Unity) and I keep getting .tar.gz themes off gnome-look but I keep running into this error that they aren't valid. What kind of themes are valid? What dependencies or pre-requisites do I need to identify before installing a theme (like Gnome version whatever, KDE, etc.)?

Under 11.04's Unity, you want to look at the GTK 2.x themes.

However, notice that themes will sometimes come compressed with several variations in a single .tar.gz or even .zip archive, and you might have to extract it or poke around in the archive to figure out what you're looking at.

Themes that include Emerald window borders and other items will need to be extracted . Sometimes this information given in the theme description and sometimes not .

I have found some outdated themes that simply don't work any more though the description says GTK 2.+ . The bulk of these did not come from Gnome Look or Ubuntu Art .org .
