I know there was a similar thread, found it through a search engine, but I don't know how old it was and I don't know if these forums like post bumps...
Looking for some raster art programs. Running 11.04.
Tried GIMP, it hates my tablet (Wacom Intuos3), keeps changing the brush location relative to cursor (brush could be about 30px above the cursor, for example), half the time it doesn't want to let the tablet pen click anything. If that could get fixed, things would probably work.
Tried to get GIMPshop, it won't install. Same for Pinta. Would love to run SAI through WINE, but apparently there are some issues with that (if someone could send me to the 1.0.0 install, I could probably get it to work).
I have Pencil, it's not what I'm looking for.
Has to be able to open .psd files.
Sorry if I'm asking a lot, but this is a bit of a big issue for me. :-(
Thanks!

Thanks!Gimp is reasonably tested on the Wacom tablets, so having your Intuos work with it should be doable: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/linuxwacom/index.php?title=Main_Page

Nothing except GIMP and, since recently, Krita opens PSD on Linux.
Painting apps are: GIMP, GIMP-painter (a fork with a mix brush), Krita, MyPaint, Gogh, Aquarelle

Thanks. Do you know where I can find Gogh? The site I was directed to from search isn't working.
I've tried out MyPaint and it's quite annoying to me honestly. I'll try out the others if GIMP doesn't work out.

Thanks. <3
MyPaint, I just don't like the program very much. I'm used to programs with a UI like Photoshop's. If we're talking about the same program here, though - MyPaint is also available for Windows and has a full-window canvas, right?

You mean unlimited canvas? Yes, that's the bunny :)

Yus, for some reason that's really awkward for me to work with. It looks like a neat program, but I guess I'm so used to working with a windowed canvas that it weirds me out. o.o

Generally the unlimited canvas is a desirable feature (you don't need to figure out how large an image you need up front) but it can be a liability with some workflows (texturing for 3d Models for example). The dev build has a feature that allows you to lock the canvas to a specific area and I believe there is a PPA floating around somewhere.
Also the upcomming release of Krita (2.4) is also worth checking out (www.krita.org).
