I have Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS, with default BEL keyboard layout, working fine.
When I select
System > Preferences > Keyboard > tab Layout
and hit [Add...] :"Choose a layout" :
Country = Russian Federation
Variants = Russian typewriter
The preview correctly shows the chosen layout.
When I select other variants for same country, the preview changes correspondingly.
After clicking [Add],the new layout is showing in the list.

However: selecting 'Russia Typewriter' and "type to test settings" just keeps producing characters according to the Belgian keyboard layout.

Also, after rebooting, in Gedit or Firefox, when selecting 'Rus', no Russian characters.

On a different machine, running Fedora (I thought FC14) I did exactly the same thing, and there it works as it should.

I read in some forum about adding more keyboard layouts, as only the even numbered ones would be active.
So I added the French layout as second.
Selecting Russian keyboard did NOTHING anymore. You can type, but cursor doesn't move.

I haven't tried using Russian as primary keyboard layout...
Is this a bug ?
Still not sorted out ?
Any advise is welcome.

Paka !
