I have often wondered why some manufacturers are so stingy with information that no driver for Linux is possible.

I'll forgive Broadcom as it involves FCC type acceptance of their hardware.

But Lexmark printers and SiS video hardware come quickly to mind.

and the thought "what are they hiding?"
or rather who's? or are they boxed by non disclosure agreements?

what ever the case it is just too easy to shop elsewhere!

best wishes avoiding those problems.

Is SiS worried that its competitors are going to steal its technology? If so, then they've sure got a high opinion of themselves. I think all their competitors have surpassed them in every way possible.

+1

I've moved this thread from Ubuntu Testimonials & Experiences to the Community Cafe. It's not really an Ubuntu experience or testimonial - more a discussion about hardware drivers in Linux generally.

Lexmark is supposedly putting on their printer boxes Linux as a supported operating system!

It's because Linux is significantly different than Windows, and has an insignificant market share.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by... apathy.
