Newbie for Wubi?

Wubi looks like an easy way to try out Ubuntu. But:
1. Any problems or special considerations installing on drive D:?
2. What's the RAM and performance penalty of running Ubuntu under Windows XP versus a native install on a separate partition?

Target system is an old Dell Dimension 4600 PC tower (2.8GHz P4, 1.5GB RAM). I would add a new SATA hard drive (which allegedly is supported by the motherboard).

Is there a free Windows program for partitioning hard drives? (Excuse my ignorance, I'm primarily a Mac user.)

Any other relevant tips? Thanx.

Wubi installs in a folder inside the Windows partition and doesn't require a manual partition . A Wubi installation is meant for temporary use an for some performance degrades over time . There is also 30 Gb maximum , no hibernation , and the installation is dependent on the health of Windows .

The system requirements are the same as a traditional Ubuntu installation and if you wish to install Ubuntu on its own partition Windows disk management or an application call Gparted can be used from the Ubuntu ISO .

If you want to try Ubuntu download the Ubuntu ISO , then you can test from the live disk (slower) , install with Wubi from the disk . or try a traditional dual boot .
