Hi i'am new to using ubuntu, and I have spent the last 2 days trying to install it onto my computer as a main OS.

I have been trying to use the "11.04 64bit" and it keeps on crashing after install. ATM I am using AMD2 with a gigabite hard drive and a SSD.
My computer not good enuff for this????
Should I use 32bit??? or 10.04.3???

Nope. It's good enough :)

What error does it crash with?

Is your computer 32-bit or 64-bit? If it's 32-bit, you need a 32-bit download.

TBH I am not sure, but I have been using win7 64 for over 1 year now and I have never had any problem with that.

If you are running a 64-bit OS, it is not the architecture. What error does it crash with?

If you don't see an error because the splash screen is blocking the view you can disable that at boot: http://www.foogazi.com/2007/10/27/remove-the-ubuntu-splash-screen/

I can say that the initial setup of Ubuntu is usually easier then Windows but also less custom to your hardware, and other Distros like Gentoo tend to be quite customization but much more time consuming. If you can use a live-cd/dvd without error, the issue might not be with Linux but more to do with GRUB or the partition you installed to.

My guess is that you will find a distribution that works both for you and your system so keep trying and posting.

Quakers-how do the SATA3 ports change it? I am interested in that because I have a new MOBO with SATA III 6GBps and I was wondering if I should turn them up to 6 or down to 3 because my HDD are 5400 eco green Samsung, but I just bought 64GB SSD 6GBps. Tha

I know there was an issue with a Marvell sata controller not being supported in Ubuntu at one time. I don't know whether that is still true, but if you have a Marvell sata controller that could be the problem.
