view hindi txt file in terminal ?

Hi ubuntu fans,
I am stuck with a problem , i want to read a text file which has hindi characters from terminal(console). let say i fire cat hindi.txt , terminal should display me the text in hindi. Do i have to make any change in LANG variables. I have already installed language support for hindi, And in GUI it works fine.Please help me out as my project is pending just beacause of this problem. :sad:
