REVERT back

Hi Guys! Is there a way to revert back ubuntu from the time it was freshly installed? I'm having problem with "desktop effects could not be enabled" i thought it was a xorg thing? but i don't know where to find or tweak it, so i want to revert back to the day it was installed, plus i've donwloaded ati catalyst and i can't open it, and the restricted hardware drivers is activated but not working. what could be wrong?

im using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, i use Emerald for windows decorator im not sure what version.
AMD Athlon II X3 440 3.0 ghz,
Gigabyte M68M-S2P
3Gb Ram
1Gb ATI Sapphire Radeon 4650
320 Gb WD HDD blue edition
I installed Ubuntu inside Win7
It never happened before, this is the 1st time it did.
