Transcoding to AAC using VLC

Hi all,

I've had this issue for months and have finally reached the end of my rope and am asking for help.

I was using VLC to stream movies to my Android phone (using VLC Stream & Convert) and it was working great until I upgraded to Natty.

Unfortunately I can't remember exactly how it was set up when I was on the earlier version (I think it was Maverick but I'm not sure).

I'm using 64-bit natty.

What I find interesting here is that libfaac shows up in -codecs but not in -formats, which I'm guessing is the cause of my issues, since it shows a decoder flag but no encoder flag.

I'm using the medibuntu -extra versions of all ffmpeg's dependencies. I'd like to avoid resorting to sources if at all possible since I have limited disk space on this server and don't want to have to install a bunch of dev packages.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
