View Full Version : [ubuntu] A way to keep apperance settings separate in different DEs?

So I've been having fun testing/using Ubuntu 11.10 Unity and Gnome Shell. Has been a good experience so far. Unfortunately, the default appearance settings for Unity makes Gnome Shell look not so pretty. But as I adjust the settings in Gnome Shell to be just right, it messes with Unity's look.

Is there a way to separate the DE apperance settings on one setup? Can I have Unity have one set of options and have Gnome Shell use another, without having to manually change appearance settings?

I don't think there is a way to separate the look of GNOME and Unity because they both use GTK. When you adjust the GTK theme / settings in one DE, it will change the GTK theme / settings in the other.

Well that's no fun!

I guess I'll have to put in a feature request...somewhere.

Thanks for the knowledge!

You can try your luck here:

But check before if it hasn't been filed already.

Greetings.
