Update packets but not the version.

Is it possible to keep a previous edition and be safe?
I know that LTS is a good solution but 10.04 is primitive compared to 11.04 which I use.

Now, that Oneiric Ocelot 11.10 is about to be released, can I keep my 11.04? But I need the security updates as well.

The reason is Unity. I dont like that GUI. I want the classic one. And dont tell me about rollback. It's buggy. Thanks :)

Hello, lovabill.

In order to cling to Natty, but get all official updates for Natty, instruct Synaptic not to check for any new Ubuntu releases.

Go to System => System Administration => Synaptic Paket Management.
Inside Synaptic go to Settings => Paket Sources => tab "Updates".
At the bottom of the screen there is a section about "Release Updates".
Select the option not to check for new distribution releases.

There are many people with same wish, I am certainly one of them.

If I could have updates and calssic gnome with it, that would be nice.

But the 11.04 as it is now, will be supported for some months after 11.10 has been released and then we are back to square, namely we are then forced to install the next version if we want any updates at all.

Debian does security updates of my about 4 years old lenny, but here with ubuntu we can not expect this to happen.

So we can live for some time with 10.04 LTS with it snice gnome2 or wait for the probably 12.04 LTS which will have some of this crazy unity, gnome3 or similar smartphone desktops.
