Instaled desktop on dedicated but cnt start it up

i instal desktop on ubunt 11.04 and try with comand
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
and it say:

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to and Upstart job, you may also use the start (8) utility, e.g. start gdm

and i type
sudo reboot
and after reboot i get unix table but not desktop :(

can anyone help

yup now i did try but it read something and now freeze what to do i type
sudo reboot
and nothing
