I wanted to try Ubuntu before completly overwriting windows xp on an old laptop so i create a Ubuntu USB image. When i boot from the USB drive everything works. So decided to install Ubuntu on my harddrive. The install completed with no errors. The computer reboot,i login, and then it seems to hang on the desktop. If i click on the desktop i can see dialog boxes and menu items appear but the screen flickers so fast i am not able to read anything ( i am a slow reader but the screen flicker is one second or less). Let me explian screen flicker. I always see the desktop. The screen isn't flickering all white or all black as i hzve read in a few forum posts. I am also not getting white lines. I see the Ubuntu desktop the entire time but there is no menu and no icons. If i left or right click menus appear but disapear very quickly. I am installing Ubuntu 11.04 on an old HP laptop.
