Its in the works atm the Proof of concept is something called Moonbase Alpha, which at its forum claims its not a alpha or beta, alpha is just in its name. The real Nasa MMO is underconstruction.

The article points out at the end that it may come to linux, with Nasa wanting to be cross platform and all, but the linux version of the client would come after the windows and Mac one...of course.

The first release a beta isn't due until Dec 2012...lol maybe its what causes the apocalypse! :P XD Meanwhile you would have to make due with the proof of concept (Moonbase Alpha) which is for Windows and is a bit hefty on the ram. (2GB Min, 4GB recommend, talk about ouch.) Moonbase Alpha link: http://astronautmmo.com/smf/index.php?topic=55.0

lol I hope the MMO won't be as res munching as its proof of concept, or the list of players will be short for sure. Though I think the POC is a standalone is a 1 player that runs sololy on th computer, I would think the client for the MMO would require less res, but I guess we will see.

Well I've had Starcraft II and The Sims Medieval both using upwards of 3GB RAM before. ;P

That is a lot of RAM. Hopefully the hardware requirements will come down...

The Ram req are for moonbase alpha, not the MMO. Moonbase Alpha was made as a proof of concept to Nasa. From what I understand from the article and vid at the bottom I guess its going to be like a adviced version of vegastrike but where you can land on Mars and what not. Its going to be a science game no multi-starsystems or pirates, or trade I gather. But a lot of science related missions and the likes.

First release of the game will be 2017. This is NASA that we are talking about.

Nasa isn't directly making the game.
