I know there has already been a metric tonne of posts about this, but the fix I usually use is not working now. I have set a sleep variable before starting gnome-settings-daemon, but it's not working. I have tried everything from 5 to 95, and nothing is helping. On Mint and Pinguy/Ping-Eee, 20 was perfect. But back on Ubuntu, it's not working at all.

Anything against using LightDM instead of GDM, as it would be the default display manager from Oneiric 11.10 on anyway; thus avoiding the both conflicting gnome-settings-daemons completely?

Example that it works here:

Instructions to install LightDM here:

Thanks for the suggestion, but alas, lightDM doesn't work for me. While the theme was there, the system was unresponsive, even after multiple reboots. I uninstalled, and reinstalled gdm. My theme is still messed up, but at least I can use my computer.
